ABOUT ROGUE WORLD MUSIC

Mission: Rogue World Music builds community and cultural awareness in the Rogue Valley through world music performance, education, and participation.

Rogue World Music is a nonprofit arts organization dedicated to preserving and promoting world folk music traditions. Our community choral programs, world music concert series, and educational workshops offer unique opportunities to experience the traditional songs and dances of cultures all over the globe.

Folk music is rich in cultural identity and history. Each culture’s music has it’s own unique sound and style. Yet the soul of folk music speaks to all peoples. We believe that exposure to world music enhances appreciation for diverse cultures while inspiring a sense of global community through the expression of shared experiences.

Rogue World Music began with the founding of the Rogue World Ensemble, our adult community choir, in 2009. In the Ensemble, local singers learn authentic world folk songs and dances and perform them, often in partnership with local cultural arts groups, for Rogue Valley audiences.

In 2015, we launched the Rogue World Choristers, a world music choral program for children. Now operating as after school clubs in several Rogue Valley schools, the Choristers program offers children the opportunity to learn about diverse cultures, unfold their creative potential, and develop their musical skills, and tap into a world of joy!

Rogue World Music regularly sponsors public workshops with renowned teachers who specialize in traditional world music and dance so our Ensemble singers, other local choral singers, and interested community members can learn to sing world folk styles authentically.

Rogue World Music also sponsors concerts by outstanding world folk musicians from around the country and the world. These Concerts are performed at intimate local venues and offered at a sliding price scale to make this music widely accessible to the public.

In 2017, we began a partnership with the Ashland Parks & Recreation Department to co-produce the Ashland World Music Festival. This free community event in May at Lithia Park offers a world of fun for all, showcasing diverse local cultural traditions as well as regional and national artists.

We welcome the involvement and support of our community. If you would like to get involved as a donor, board member, or volunteer, please visit our Support page. Thank you!
